Humanoid robot climbs over 6,200-meter peak for the first time

Humanoid robots reach peaks above 6,200 meters for the first time, with over 80% of related patent applications filed in the past five years.

According to Yangtze Evening News, recently, the American startup Geological Dome, based on Unitree's modified humanoid mountaineering robot Pemba, successfully summited Ecuador's Chimborazo volcano at an altitude of about 6,200 meters, becoming the first known humanoid robot to reach the summit of a peak above 6,000 meters. This breakthrough not only demonstrates the mobility potential of humanoid robots in extreme environments but also once again brings the humanoid robot industry into the public eye.

According to Qichacha data, as of June 22, there are 1,106 humanoid robot-related companies in China, mainly distributed in East and South China, accounting for 47.20% and 23.60% respectively. In terms of registered capital, over 60% of related enterprises have registered capital of tens of millions of yuan or more. In terms of registrations, the annual number of related companies has fluctuated and increased over the past decade, with registrations rising 32.35% year-on-year to 90 in 2024 and 7.78% to 97 in 2025, setting a new ten-year high. In terms of patents, as of now, there are 2,895 patents related to humanoid robots currently existing in China, with a total of 2,488 applications since 2021, accounting for 85.94% of all existing patents. In 2025, the number of related patent applications will exceed 1,000 for the first time, reaching 1,342, a year-on-year increase of 115.41%.

In terms of regional distribution, East China has the most, accounting for 47.20%; South China accounts for 23.60%, and together they make up 70.80%. North China, Central China, and Southwest China accounted for 11.93%, 6.78%, and 5.24% respectively, all between 5% and 15%. In contrast, the northwest and northeast regions accounted for the lowest proportions, at 2.89% and 2.35%, respectively.

2. Over 60% of related enterprises have registered capital of 10 million yuan or above.

According to Qichacha data, the largest number of related enterprises have registered capital of 50 million yuan or more, accounting for 36.98%; Enterprises with registered capital between 10 million yuan (inclusive) and 50 million yuan accounted for 25.14%, with the combined share exceeding 62%. Additionally, enterprises with registered capital of 1 million yuan (inclusive) - 2 million yuan, 5 million yuan (inclusive) - 10 million yuan, 2 million yuan (inclusive) - 5 million yuan, and 1 million yuan (inclusive) - 5 million yuan accounted for 12.57%, 11.48%, 7.92%, and 5.92% respectively, with related enterprises with registered capital under 1 million yuan accounting for the lowest proportion.

3. By 2025, the number of patents related to humanoid robots will reach a five-year high.

According to Qichacha data, in terms of patents, as of June 22, there are 2,895 existing humanoid robot-related patents in China. Since 2021, the number of related patent applications has entered a fast growth track, with 2,488 applications filed from 2021 to 2026 (so far), accounting for 85.94% of the total existing patents. Specifically, in 2024, 623 applications were filed, a year-on-year increase of 371.97%; in 2025, 1,342 applications were filed, a year-on-year increase of 115.41%, hitting a five-year high; and so far in 2026, 313 humanoid robot-related patents have already been applied for.
